Last November I went to San Juan, Puerto Rico, with the Fox BMX team to shoot photos and video for their Web site. One morning before the crew woke up I went out to get some scenic b-roll shots for the video, and while pedaling around I snapped a handful of nice travel photos for myself.
Even though I’ve been working at Ride BMX for nearly five years now I still get stoked to see my photos printed in the magazine. Issue 172 (May/June 2011) hit the newsstands today (April 12, 2011) and features a full page photo I shot of Chase Hawk blasting an insane 270 invert on a hip in Puerto Rico. The photo is part of an article by Jeff Zielinski about how the laws of motion play into BMX riding.
I shot the photo while on a Fox trip last November. In case you missed the video I made from that trip, it is embedded below. You can skip to 2:33 to see the clip of this photo. Thanks to Robo for handling that one while I shot the still! And of course, you can still check out the other photos from the Puerto Rico trip on the Fox Web site.
While I’m at it I may as well give the ole plug and encourage everyone to subscribe to Ride so you can get it sent to your house every month, or order the digital version so you can keep it on your iPad.
Here’s a new ad for DK Bicycles that is featured on the back cover of the March 2011 issue of BMX Plus! magazine and a full-page interior ad in Ride BMX magazine issue 171.
I shot the photo of Brian Hunt on a trip with the Fox BMX team to Puerto Rico in November of 2010.
I recently got the amazing opportunity to travel to Puerto Rico with three of the Fox BMX team riders (Scotty Cranmer, Drew Bezanson, and Chase Hawk) to shoot photos and film a video while they did autograph signings and some skatepark demos. It’s always fun to hang out with a group of cool riders, and exploring new places is a real treat, too. Puerto Rico is a beautiful place, and I’ll probably find myself there again some day as this was a quick two and a half day trip…
Fox has been hooking me up with their apparel and footwear for years now, and I’ve always been into what they do. Not only with their soft goods, but with their brand and team riders, too, so I was really stoked to be a part of this trip.
I’ve done some writing and photo work for Fox over the years, but this was the first time they brought me on a full trip, and the first time I did a video for them. The video received more than 30,000 views in just two weeks! (Even though the song got mixed reviews, haha! For the record, selecting tracks from the cleared music given to you for a project isn’t an easy task.)
